Milestone & Special Edition Sessions

West Michigan Milestone Photographer

There are so many special milestones we get to witness as our children grow up. From their first steps to their big first birthday and next thing you know they are off to driver’s training (referring to my boy, insert tear). I’m sure we have all wished to freeze time even for just a moment to capture, cherish and hold onto those fleeting moments. So let me help you create memories, keepsakes to have for years to come!

What is considered a children’s session?

Typically the session is to celebrate a birthday or milestone (3, 6, 9 month). They can be themed, with or without a cake smash, or simple for the minimalists. The session is tailored to your liking.

Do you offer any other children sessions throughout the year?

Yes! On specific dates throughout the year I will offer limited edition sessions. Some I have done in the past- Santa, milk and cookies, tree farm, fall, glitter, valentines, spring, mommy and me. These sessions vary from 10-20 minutes long and have limited availability so if you are interested please get on the email list to be the first to know!

Maternity- What to expect

West Michigan Maternity Photographer

Motherhood is a Beautiful journey

Nine months may seem like a lifetime in the moment but in reality it goes by so fast. I often hear moms talk about things they wish they would have done one of them being maternity photos. It really is a special moment in life that should be documented because creating another human is absolutely amazing!

When should you reach out to schedule a session?

It’s never too early to connect and go over session details.

When is the best time for maternity pictures?

Typically anywhere from 32-36 weeks but if you are farther along and there’s availability please don’t hesitate to reach out.

What do you wear?

I have a client closet with dresses of all sizes available and I can also help with ideas if you prefer to bring your own outfits.

Where do we take them?

I have a studio or we can find an outside location, whichever you prefer.

Can my family be included?

Absolutely, I encourage it! Whether its just your significant other and/or your other children they are all welcome in the pictures.

Newborn Session- What to expect

West Michigan Newborn Photographer

Your little squish is here!

Them tiny toes and tiny fingers, is there anything sweeter? I love all my baby snuggles and freezing this moment for you because in a blink it’s gone! You hear the saying time flies well it really does when you have kids. Don’t let this milestone sneak by you because I promise, you will regret it. I would love to meet your sweet bundle, so lets go over how it works!

When should you book a newborn session?

It’s never too early to reach out as newborn sessions are limited to give my clients the best experience

How old does your newborn need to be?

There is not an exact age limit but it’s best when they are 1-2 weeks old. If your baby is past that timeframe just reach out and we can find a plan that works best for you

What should your newborn wear?

I provide all of the wraps, swaddles, headbands, bonnets, sleepy caps, props, backdrops so there is no need to stress over what they should wear. If there will be parent and sibling pictures with baby, I would love to help with wardrobe choices to make this as stress free as possible for you.

How long is the session and where do they take place?

The session will take place in my studio and is typically 2.5 hours long. These sessions require more time than other sessions to give baby time to eat, sleep, diaper changes, soothing, and family pictures.

My goal for this session is to allow parents to sit back and relax while I care for your little one and do what I do best, capture all their tiny little details and maybe even a smile!

For the curious minds.

Photography plus some!

have you ever wondered what goes into photography besides the session and editing? I had no clue until it went from being a hobby to a business.i thought i would share for the inquiring minds, and it gives me something to chat about because blogging is new territory for me. i was never a fan of writing papers but here we are!

since you’re a one man band it all falls on you, otherwise it won’t get done… referring to the business side of it. but i also need my clients! they are absolutely amazing and deserve all the recognition because without them there would be no business. a lot of my clients come from referrals, word of mouth, family and friends, but i have gained many clients through social media. facebook has been the main source but im trying to up my instagram game so if you have insta id love a follow!

marketing is a huge piece for any business. you need to get your name out there, get a brand for yourself, find your clientele and never stop chasing your dream!

lets not forget about all the programs we use. you need to have an editing program, most photographers use 2 programs, a website that should be updated weekly, an online gallery platform to deliver pictures, a scheduling program, and a way to send invoices and collect payment online. having the option to pay online is convienant but with that comes a fee for every transaction made that the business owner has to pay.

there is also the communication between clients which is hands down a top priority but can be a job in itself. keeping track of who communicated where because i receive emails, facebook messages, instagram messages, texts and phone calls. i never really thought i was the organized type but after writing this i take that back. i dont always have my ducks in a row but hey who does!

Lastly, the fun props! since im a newborn and childrens photographer i love to buy all the props, and let me tell you they are not cheap (what is anymore). just to give an example, some of the newborn swaddles, bonnets, sleepy caps, and headbands cost anywhere from $15-$100. i also have a client closet for maternity sessions and those dresses depending on where they are from can be costly. it all adds up and trying to keep up with the trends and seasons makes for adding to the collection frequently.

i guess one last but very important thing, equipment. i remember my first big girl camera, it was a target black friday special for $100, a steal of a deal! Since then i think i have upgraded 4 times. i have also upgraded my computer a few times after researching and learning what type of computer works great for editing programs. its hard keeping up with the latest technology and software because its always advancing and then the old stuff seems to work at a snails pace. then we have the studio lights, memory cards, extra batteries, external flashes, lenses, camera bag, etc.

i feel like taxes need their own blog. small business taxes are absolutely ridiculous! and some have to factor in health insurance, retirement planning, all the things that a large corporation typically contributes to for their workers.

Another investment photographers make is education. i didnt go to college for photography but i have invested in education over the years. i have traveled to wisconsin for a workshop. im currently part of an amazing online education program. there are also many hours invested in researching and learning things on my own.

in a nutshell, photography is an investment for my clients. its not the camera that does the work, its the person behind the camera with a passion for photography that has learned how to shoot in manual mode, what aperture, iso, and shutter speed mean. its learning how to interact with your clients, create authentic, storytelling images. its about the experience.

if you made it this far thanks for taking the time read my very first blog! if theres something you want me to write about please let me know!

until next time!
